Chronic venous insufficiency and haemorrhoidal disease

The term "chronic venous insufficiency" (CVI) indicates a set of clinical manifestations with high incidence, characterised by functional anomalies of the venous system. Lower limb oedema and haemorrhoidal disease are some of the main manifestations of CVI.

In haemorrhoidal disease, the alteration of the venous microcirculation occurs at the level of the haemorrhoidal plexus. Insufficient venous drainage causes blood to stagnate at the level of the haemorrhoidal cushions. Blood stasis triggers inflammatory processes at local level, favouring the onset of oedema, irritation, bleeding and the progressive weakening of the peripheral venous vessels.

Venous insufficiency can be subsequent to the degeneration of the connective tissue supporting the haemorrhoidal plexus or arise from the increase in pre-capillary arterial flow. In any case, CVI is one of the main elements on which it is necessary to act in the presence of symptomatic haemorrhoids, where inflammation and the weakness of peripheral venous vessels are the key elements.

The administration of products based on phlebotonic or vein-protective substances is a central element of haemorrhoidal disease therapy, particularly in the early stages of the disease. In the initial stages of haemorrhoids, use of these products can in fact slow down and prevent the progression of the disease. In this case, prevention has a double meaning: to prevent and delay the onset of the disease and if the latter is already present, to reduce and delay its deterioration.

THD research has created the THD Fleben® Line, the line of bioflavonoid supplements dedicated to the health and well-being of venous microcirculation
